NatPower Marine Brings Together Global Maritime Leaders to Tackle Zero-Emission Shipping at LISW 2025
Stefano Sommadossi, CEO, NatPower Marine UK
As momentum builds toward a zero-emission future for international shipping, NatPower Marine will host a high-level forum during London International Shipping Week (LISW) 2025 to highlight the challenges and possible solutions required to meet the sector’s 2030 energy transition goals. This flagship event will bring together senior figures from shipping, ports, energy, and government to address the regulatory, infrastructure, and investment pathways essential for achieving zero-emission maritime operations.
Titled “Navigating Maritime Decarbonisation – Powering the Big Shift”, the forum will be held on Monday, 15 September from 14:00 to 16:30 at Seatrade/Informa offices (240 Blackfriars Road, London). This marks one of the first major industry gatherings following MEPC 83, offering critical insight ahead of the upcoming MEPC/ES.2 session, where adoption of the IMO’s proposed “Net-Zero Framework” and amendments to MARPOL Annexe VI are anticipated.
As the maritime sector prepares to meet the IMO’s climate targets for 2030 and 2050, this timely event will explore how the industry can overcome the practical challenges of implementation—from emissions-at-berth requirements to the rollout of alternative fuels and shore power infrastructure.
The programme will assess commercial, technical, and policy readiness across four key focus areas:
- The evolving role of hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and synthetic fuels in zero-emission shipping
- Shore power deployment, cold ironing technology, and energy grid integration
- Takeaways from MEPC 83, the UK Clean Maritime Plan, and European regulatory developments
- Innovative models for investment, collaboration, and green corridor creation.
Chaired by industry experts Gary Howard, Group UK editor (Seatrade Maritime, Informa Markets) and Roland Teixeira (EOPSA), the forum will bring together leading voices committed to enabling scalable, clean maritime infrastructure.
“As policy, technology, and investment start to align, this is a crucial moment to confront the practical challenges of enabling clean shipping at scale,” said Stefano D.M. Sommadossi, CEO of NatPower Marine UK. “This forum isn’t just about ideas, it’s about execution. We’re convening the organisations that can make this transition real.”
Delivering the Infrastructure for Clean Shipping
NatPower Marine is not only facilitating the conversation, but it is also actively delivering the infrastructure required to support decarbonised maritime trade. The company is developing a global network of 120 clean port locations by 2030, with strategic projects already committed to in the UK and Ireland.
In partnership with port operators, including Peel Ports Group, NatPower Marine is deploying grid-connected, high-capacity infrastructure to power both cold ironing and electric vessel charging. The company’s privately financed investment model integrates large-scale renewables, long-duration battery storage and intelligent port-grid interfaces to reduce connection delays and eliminate the capital burden for ports and operators.
“We’re not asking governments to fund this transition, we’re asking them to remove the obstacles so we can deliver faster,” Sommadossi added.
This LISW forum will spotlight how real-world infrastructure, commercial readiness, and strategic alignment are converging to enable the decarbonisation targets set by the IMO and national governments.
NatPower Marine is part of the wider NatPower Group, a global developer of renewable energy infrastructure with over 30 GW in its pipeline spanning solar, wind, battery storage, and green hydrogen. Within the group, NatPower H is focused on building the first international network of hydrogen refuelling stations for recreational and light commercial vessels, with operations already under way across Southern Europe.
Together, the group provides the financial scale, engineering capability, and multi-sector experience needed to support maritime decarbonisation at pace and across multiple technologies. Together, the group brings the financial scale, engineering capability, and cross-sector insight required to support maritime decarbonisation at pace and across various technologies.
