SSI founds dedicated EMEA subsidiary to meet growing regional demand
Based in Rotterdam, SSI EMEA will build on SSI’s 30-year presence in European shipbuilding markets and expand coverage for SSI’s ShipConstructor and ShipbuildingPLM solutions.
New regional office is part of a strategy that strengthens European presence with solutions for ship designers, builders and vessel operators
Victoria, Canada, 19 November 2024. SSI, the leader in software, services, and expertise for the business of shipbuilding, has announced the establishment of a dedicated subsidiary to service a growing client base in the EMEA region.
Based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, SSI EMEA will build on SSI’s 30-year presence in European shipbuilding markets and expand coverage for SSI’s ShipConstructor and ShipbuildingPLM solutions.
SSI has shown a strong commitment to the EMEA region over three decades, and this dedication is being reinforced through the opening of a new office to better cater to its expanding client base.
The new entity will continue to be supported by long-standing partners NDAR, TECNOR, and SPI ShipConstructor with which SSI has worked to service ship designers and vessel constructors in Europe for over 30 years. Nick Danese of NDAR joins the EMEA subsidiary as a senior advisor, to provide multi-lingual services in training, project assistance, business process assessment, and implementation consulting.
"Our ongoing investment in the EMEA region exemplifies our promise to deliver exceptional service and support to our customers," says David Males, Director of Business Development at SSI. “This new office underscores our long-term commitment to the region and ensures we can respond more effectively to the unique needs of our clients.
The highly specialised ship designers and constructors in the EMEA region are faced with increasingly complex ship construction projects, often in specialist sectors, which must meet high performance criteria and stringent compliance standards. Existing SSI customers in the region include BMT, Fassmer, Incat Crowther, Royal Huisman and Vuyk Engineering among many others.
SSI leverages its expertise in digital shipbuilding to support designers, shipbuilders and operators from design conception through construction to maintenance, with tools that improve efficiency and shorten project timelines.
SSI’s ShipConstructor solution is a complete tool for the design, engineering, and construction of shipbuilding projects. It enables designers to create a single product model, and use it for basic, functional, detail, and production design.
This enables naval architects to push the boundaries of 3D design and visualization, including the exploration of virtual reality (VR) for more immersive design reviews, supporting 3D vessel classification, working with multiple hulls, and automating production machinery. ShipConstructor also helps the design and engineering team control, track, and manage the 3D model, engineering product structures, and related production documentation within engineering.
ShipbuildingPLM provides the ability to leverage the ‘digital thread’ during design and construction activities. Using a shipbuilding-specific data model, the tool provides traceability of the connection between catalogue items, requirements, the functional design, the 3D product model, and the shop floor down to a single part level.
Designers and builders benefit from powerful workflows to scope, manage, understand, and execute engineering changes. Operators can use the data within the digital twin to access characteristics and configuration within the 3D model and simplify sustainment for a single ship or an entire class.
The resulting digital twin supports lifecycle maintenance and repair, combining the 3D ship model with laser scans of the on-the-water state of the vessel, combined with CAD, PDF, or other data to provide a true to life picture of the asset.
